Abstract:

This Thesis is a Computer Science approach towards the 'Design in 7 Days'
vision. It describes a joint research project between the Department of
Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen, Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd.
and the Danish Maritime Institute. The research project is part of the
research done by the Center for Object Technology. Important conclusions
made during the work with the project are: (1) technology transfer between
universities and private companies is possible with benefits for all, (2)
evolutionary prototyping is a powerful strategy when requirements are not
well-defined and new ways of supporting an engineering process is to be
developed, (3) object oriented methods are well-suited for domain modelling,
and (4) domain experts and IT experts in cooperation performs a strong team
when systems supporting an engineering process is to be developed.
