Centre for Object Technology
The Centre for Object Technology (COT) is a Danish collaboration
project with participants from industry, universities and
technological institutes.
The overall goal of Centre for Object Technology (COT) is to carry
out research, development and technology transfer in the area of
object-oriented software construction. The activities in COT are based
on actual needs from the participating industrial partners.

Research Institutions
- Architecture of object-oriented systems
- The goal here is to improve the means for reuse of design and code.
This is done by working with architectural elements such as
(application-) frameworks, design rules and design patterns,
component-based architectures (like COM and ActiveX), distributed
objects (like CORBA), open implementations, documentation, etc.
- Tool support for (cooperative) OO development
- Most existing tools of OO software development are single user
oriented. One goal for COT is to investigate tools for cooperative
software development and for supporting the initial phases of
analysis and design. Technologies to be investigated are conference
systems and electronic whiteboards in the form of large touch
sensitive computer screens.
- Introduction of OO into companies
- In practice there be a number of problems with introducing OO
into a company, since OO development in many ways differs from
traditional function-oriented development. This requires a
number of changes for the company as well as the developers.
Introduction of reuse may often require that the company changes
its way of developing and maintaining software.
COT is organized around 6 industrial cases:
- Design in 7 days (OSS, DMI, TI, DIKU)
- Architecture of embedded systems (B&O, DF, TI, AU)
- Component based software (SSE, TI, AU)
- Integration with non-OO systems (WM, RB, TI, AU)
- Dragon: Object-oriented architecture of a global customer service system (ML, AU)
- Simulation technology (OSS, APM, MTC, OU, DMI, TI)
COT is sponsored by the Danish National Centre for IT-Research (CIT).
